Location and Message

The location of the memorial in Limestone Park is a fitting geographic venue as it is a public place and sits above the valuable faults and seams that provided the plentiful coal. The memorial seeks to provide a respectful place for the commemoration, by the families and wider community, of those that lost their lives in carrying out their roles. An overriding message the memorial seeks to convey, is the scale of the sacrifice that this community has made in losing almost 200 lives in a peace time industry that provided stability and prosperity for many. The memorial will act as a catalyst for further historical education and information about the activity, events, and individuals that formed the industry and about those who gave their lives.
